Motorola DROID review

It's hard to look at the DROID without looking at the company which brought the device to life. Motorola: for years the name has been synonymous with... well, disappointment. While the industry-stalwart made cellphones sexy with the RAZR, the days which followed have not been especially fruitful or compelling. Over the past year or so, we've seen Motorola beating its way back into the mainstream through a series of smart plays: first embracing Android as a platform, then shucking off the weight of Windows Mobile and finally bringing some desirable (and high profile) devices to market.

With the DROID, the company has perhaps created its most attractive and intriguing piece of technology yet. Forging an alliance with both Verizon and Google, Motorola has come up with a second compelling reason to count the phonemaker down, but certainly not out, while the other two giants have finally found a seemingly worthy parking sensor device to position against the iPhone. So we must pose these questions: is this the phone which will catapult Android into the mainstream? Is it the device that will pull Motorola back from the brink? And -- most importantly -- is it the lynchpin Google and Verizon have needed to challenge the leader in mindshare in the smartphone market? After putting the device through its paces, we think we can give you the answers you seek -- so read on to find out!

How would you change Sony's PlayStation 3 Slim?

For the most part, we'd say that Sony addressed the concerns of many when it introduced the PlayStation 3 Slim. The console was smaller, cheaper and easier on the eyes, and of course the 120GB hard drive didn't hurt matters either. That said, we know that the redesign didn't please everyone, and we've heard more than a few PS3 diehards complain about the new design.
If it were you designing a newer, less expensive PlayStation 3, what would you have done differently? Kept PS2 backwards compatibility? Colored it white? Added HD DVD support? Don't be scared to get a little crazy -- besides, they call that "innovation" in the corporate world.

Fritz says GM need not any further aid from Washington

Fritz Henderson went to Washington to have a word the folks who wrote the $ 50 billion check to keep General Motors alive. Where he answered a number of issues raised from the Washington Post, the investment and the "new" company, it creates. His answer is sound, but qualified, a bit vague - it is to be expected, as economic crisis, will not be any close.

With regard to monetary issues, he said: "Any reasonable planning program", they have read does not involve any government, a written examination, and said that he returns, "If we let our work well, I think the Government has received a relatively a high return on investment a good opportunity. "This can be understood as all of the words," We can not identify what would happen. "But 4 months into his job still too early to Henderson's commitment to do well during the year, Therefore, at least, we will see the next round of general-purpose vehicles as before, we analyze the authenticity of his.

In other scores, Henderson praised the United Auto Workers, kicked in the door of hydrogen vehicles, estimated that the Chevrolet Volt will be at 4 million, he said, electric cars need to have more the price of other sources of investment decline . Microsoft's MSN Direct service to shut down

Microsoft's MSN Direct service to shut down in 2012,Well, it's quite the day for any GPS-related announcement, but Microsoft has nonetheless made a fairly big one of its own, with it dropping word via a simple service announcement that it's killing off its MSN Direct live information service for navigation units (among other devices -- even the odd coffeemaker). Those relying on the FM-based service won't be left in the lurch just yet, however, as the shutdown won't occur until January 1st, 2012. Anyone looking to move on

with their lives before that can also cancel their service at any point prior to the shutdown date and receive a pro-rated refund for the unused portion of their service, and you can of course rest assured that all MSN Direct-equipped car GPS devices will continue to function as basic nav units after the shutdown.

Do you want to a Google Navigation video hands-on?

We apologize for fanish, but Google snatched something with its new gps navigation items in Google Maps (or Google Maps is he in a navigation application? It is difficult to say) that has serious consequences for an industry navigation system used for charging money for functionality. The

introduction of satellite view, a touch of good taste of street view (Peep a still of your next turn, or visit your destination), and of course quite normal, like spoken directions and street names and voice recognition applied to Google search (anywhere on the device just tap voice search and start your sentence with "navigate to") make this offer a nice surprise for what is essentially a free application the purchase of an android 2.0 device. The biggest worry is that if you lose the signal you will not be able to draw maps, but that is not the entire plan caching, it not cache a route when you enter, as long as you do not stray too far from the beaten path, it should go down with a signal here or there. But enough of our blather, watch a video after the break .

Details of 3D cable demo at Cable-Tec emerge

We have Motorola's official blog friends have just come back from checking out the cable Mari three-dimensional presentation - Tec and be able to dig in addition to sharing her impression of some additional details. She said that the overall circular polarization and active are "looking good", but each increase is due to the different set-top boxes, it is difficult to achieve a fair presentation shutter A to B comparison. This also enables us still do not know how compatible these two kinds of three-dimensional display technology - we suspect that they are compatible, this is proven as the delivery of IPTV and the QAM way. The most interesting question is the fact that, in order to the new Multi-view video coding technology, thanks to three-dimensional flow requres is only about 30 percent throughtput then in the same two-dimensional image. This is not as much as possible Matsushita claimed that the new three-dimensional

requirements of Blu-ray specifications, this is still lower than the estimated 50. Another thing that we do not know whether to leave the demonstration of frame rate, but earlier this week confirmed CableLabs demonstration of 1080, while telecommunications engineers have been added to 60 frames per second in 1080 of its encoding standard. We assume that the frame rate must be at least 30 frames per eye, but because otherwise the situation is likely to significantly annoying flicker ..

Good quality but the price is not very good.
